My first digital camera was a Canon EOS 20D, then a 60D and a finally an EOS 6D. When Sony a7III appeared, I saw perfectly clear that it was a revolution. In 2019, we bought a new a7III and in one year more, we bought the second one. Sony a7IV has never impressed me. For photo shootings I think that is the same. The 4k 60p cropped was the reason to wait, overheating news about this camera was another reason.
What I am trying to say is that Sony has shown their potential. Professional hybrid shooters needs a camera between the Sony a6700, the a7IV and the a7SIII. 4k 60p without crop, possible 4k 120p (we’d accept a little 1.2 crop), a better tilt and flip out screen (seen on a7RV), possibility of ProRes 422 recording (not only H264 or H265) in camera, possibility to film with all sensor (open gate) to use anamorphic lenses. Specs that are shown in the Fujifilm cameras XH2s and XS20 (APS-C cameras)
If Sony wants to continue leading the market, needs to do this and then some, or they are going to lose a lot of professional clients.

Hey Fiona, I’m not sure if you’ll see this in time but B&H is currently doing a great deal on refurbished Z6’s – check it out here.

Hey Fiona! I’ve used the Z series and it’s great in many ways, but in others it falls short for me… for now, at least. (I have every confidence Nikon will release something much better in the next year!) If you’ve never shot Sony before, I think you’ll be very happy with the Z6. The ergonomics are much better for one, and I also prefer the colours of Nikon files to Sony. If Nikon ever releases something that I think can truly compete against the Sony bodies, I’d happily jump back to them – I have kept my lenses just in case ;-) All the best, and let us know how you get on with it!

I am looking to head over to the Nikon range and have been completely blown away by the new Mirror-less options. I am particularly interested in the Nikon Z6 and although it is 24’5 MP with an ISO ranging to 100 to 51,200 and the video capability is also amazing.

To be honest I love the look and the feel along with the capability. I am by no mean taking from an expert point of view but I do wonder if it is something you have at all tried and wondered what your view of it may be having previously worked with Nikon’s Kind regard Fiona

Yeah I agree – Sony offer almost TOO many settings! The menus are a labyrinth of options… but when you have everything dialed in, I do love the flexibility. This post should help with some advice on Sony A7RIII settings. Backup body – depends what you’re shooting, but the a6400 is decent?

Thanks Phil! Yep, the RX10 IV is an intriguing camera, although a little bulky for my tastes, especially when there are similar offerings from Sony that are much smaller. The superzoom + phase detect AF is decent, with some of the tech dribbled down from the a9.

With good light, plenty of image quality and fantastic range, it’s another winner, and my first choice for casual outings.

Having recently got rid of my Canon gear (after 40 years of Canon ownership!), for an A7 RIII, it is a constant battle to decide on best settings for different situations.
With the rapid upgrades coming to these (relatively new) cameras, settling on a backup body is also an issue with different battery types, functionality etc. With the more mature product lines from Canon (and I’m sure Nikon) budget was usually the only consideration. Any thoughts on backup body?
